After flying high against the Holyoke Dragons last Tuesday, the Perkins County Plainsmen came back down to earth. Perkins County fell 62-50 to Sedgwick County on Thursday. Perkins County has struggled against Sedgwick County recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Perkins County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kailee Potts. Despite the final result, she scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 52% of Perkins County's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Libby Cole was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Leading Sedgwick County to victory were Abigail Dille and Lainee Nein. Dille scored 20 points, while Nein dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Nein is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ryen Carlson, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Perkins County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. As for Sedgwick County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Perkins County will head out on the road to take on Maxwell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sedgwick County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wiggins at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Wiggins is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
