After flying high against the Southern Lee Cavaliers last Friday, the Pinecrest Patriots came back down to earth. Pinecrest received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 61-46 to Lee County. Pinecrest was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lee County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Pinecrest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zanodiya Mcnair. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Mcnair is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Depenbrock, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Leading Lee County to victory were Gillian Garrison and Kelyce Mcswain. Garrison scored 21 points along with eight rebounds, while Mcswain dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds. Mcswain has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaleah Cotton, who scored seven points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Pinecrest has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Lee County, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinecrest will take on Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pinecrest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while Scotland is ranked 114th). As for Lee County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Richmond at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Lee County likes a good challenge.
