The South Point Red Raiders will be playing at home against the Kings Mountain Mountaineers at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. South Point has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 327 points over their last five matches.
South Point pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Crest 63-57. While losing is never fun, South Point can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Crest is ranked 40th).
Despite their defeat, South Point saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Graham Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Petty, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Kings Mountain scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 93-43 win over Forestview. That looming 93-43 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Kings Mountain yet this season.
Kings Mountain's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tucker Robinette, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals, and Bradley Floyd, who scored 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Jordan Floyd was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
South Point's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Kings Mountain, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. South Point hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 62.6 points per game. However, it's not like Kings Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 70.4 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
South Point strolled past Kings Mountain in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 61-47. Will South Point repeat their success, or does Kings Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
