The Carroll Chargers will challenge the DeKalb Barons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Carroll after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Leo by a score of 4-3.
Evan Rinehart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Zavier Edgar was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Christlieb, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, DeKalb strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Fremont.
Brendan Vance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drake Hall, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Brady Vince was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
DeKalb pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average this season. As for Carroll, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carroll has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like DeKalb struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carroll skirted past DeKalb 7-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Barons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
