The Liberty Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Liberty was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sherman on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Tide with a sharp 7-0 win. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Maddie Cox, who gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Sherman off the board. Cox has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Liberty let Allie Bowles and Katie Mullens run wild. Bowles went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Mullens went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Scarbro, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 10-1 to James Monroe.
Woodrow Wilson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Smallwood, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Woodrow Wilson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. It's a different story for Woodrow Wilson, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?
Liberty couldn't quite get it done against Woodrow Wilson in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 8-3. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
