Southern Indiana recap Sept. 26, 2012
Mater Dei was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Bosse 57-14. The Wildcats came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 36 last week.
Reitz Memorial was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in Southern Indiana. The Tigers vanquished the Tigers 21-17 earlier in the week.
Reitz Memorial's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dane Hurley threw for 59 yards and Will Durchholz had 25 yards receiving. On the ground McKinley Warren chipped in 127 yards. Charlie Grief helped Reitz Memorial's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.
John Hurley's team's Hurley and Grief have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hurley has thrown for 581 yards this season, while Grief, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 14 catches for 144 yards. Blake Howell from Evansville North leads the league in rushing with 819 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Castle takes on Harrison. The Knights are currently in second, while the Warriors are in seventh.
Mater Dei extended the longest winning streak in Southern Indiana this week by beating the Bulldogs, 57-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for Mike Goebel's team.
