Baseball Recap: Cimarron-Memorial Wins Going Away Against Pinecrest Academy Cadence

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sports Leadership & Management, Cimarron-Memorial was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars as they made off with an 18-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Gauge Elder made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Cimarron-Memorial: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cayden Cavallone was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mares Kai, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Cimarron-Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinecrest Academy Cadence only posted an OBP of .357.

Cimarron-Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Cimarron-Memorial will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
