The El Dorado Golden Hawks and the Mayfair Monsoons squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the El Dorado Golden Hawks had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Monsoons by a score of 31-28. El Dorado's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Loss or not, El Dorado got some senior leadership from Nate Bento who rushed for 169 yards while picking up 10.6 yards per carry and Isaiah Quintero who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns.
Mayfair can attribute much of their success to Jeremiah Calvin, who threw for 319 yards and a touchdown while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Chaz Gilbreath, who picked up 180 receiving yards.
El Dorado's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Mayfair, the last time they lost on the road was back back in August. Having now won six straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 11-3.
El Dorado does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mayfair will be playing in front of their home fans against Mount Miguel at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mount Miguel knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Mayfair likes a good challenge.
