After a string of four wins, the Calexico Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Imperial on the road by a decisive 67-49 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Calexico of the 63-55 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Calexico lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Michael Duffy, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Duffy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dany Carreon, who scored ten points.
David Scariano continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Imperial, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Scariano has scored at least a third of Imperial's points. Jared Nixon was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 21 rebounds.
Calexico's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8. As for Imperial, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-13.
Calexico's road trip will continue as they head out to face Vincent Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Vincent Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Calexico likes a good challenge. As for Imperial, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Palo Verde Valley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
