Fernley is 10-0 against South Tahoe since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Fernley Vaqueros' road trip will continue as they head out to face the South Tahoe Vikings at 1:00 p.m. on December 27th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Fernley faced North Valleys in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Fernley breezed by North Valleys on the road to the tune of 66-32. The result was nothing new for Fernley, who have now won six contests by 24 points or more so far this season.
Jasmyne Torres continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Tollestrup, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, South Tahoe really took it to Mineral County for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-7 win at home. The team accrued 39 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.
Among those leading the charge was Carly Cox, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Avery Long was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Fernley pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.25 points. As for South Tahoe, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fernley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Tahoe, though, as they've been averaging only 36.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Fernley against South Tahoe in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-16 win. With Fernley ahead 36-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.
