With a playoff game on the line, St. Thomas More rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by the Eagles at home to the tune of 69-30. Considering St. Thomas More has won nine matches by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hutch Swilley had a dynamite game for St. Thomas More, rushing for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per carry. John luke St.pierre was another key contributor, rushing for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Meanwhile, Lafayette Christian Academy faced Teurlings Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lafayette Christian Academy walked away with a 42-35 win over Teurlings Catholic on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but Lafayette Christian Academy sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Lafayette Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalen Noel, who rushed for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Noel was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jujuan Johnson, who threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
St. Thomas More's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for Lafayette Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.
