Volleyball Recap: Maize South's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

It was a good run, but Maize South unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Great Bend Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2020.

Maize South actually scored more points across those three sets (69-64), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 13-25, 26-24, 25-20.

Sage Illian paced Maize South's offense, picking up 18 kills. Illian got some help from Autumn Popp and her 44 assists.

Great Bend can attribute much of their success to Ava Kaiser, who had 12 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Kaiser has posted over her last six matches.

Maize South's loss dropped their record down to 36-5. As for Great Bend, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 28-10 record this season.

Maize South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Blue Valley Southwest on the 30th. As for Great Bend, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Kapaun Mt. Carmel on the 30th.
