The Hialeah Thoroughbreds and the Southridge Spartans squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Hialeah Thoroughbreds had to settle for second. Hialeah's tough 48-23 loss to Southridge might stick with them for a while. Hialeah's defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Southridge found their leader in underclassman James Perrone, who threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes. Perrone is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Bethel, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Hialeah's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Southridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Hialeah does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Southridge will head out on the road to face off against Homestead at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Homestead is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
