Cheyenne Mountain is a perfect 5-0 against Doherty since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Cheyenne Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Cheyenne Mountain is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Liberty just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 5-4.
Cheyenne Mountain handed starting duties to Luke Rossow, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Rossow has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hudson Chou made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Tavin Brown, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Doherty lost 14-8 to Pine Creek on Monday.
Brody Noll was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Doherty: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 8-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Graham, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Doherty's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cheyenne Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Doherty struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cheyenne Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Doherty in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
