The defeat was a vexing one since Marlborough were expected to win based on their state ranking. The game brought Fitchburg to 2-3 and dropped Marlborough to a mirror-image 3-2.
Next week Marlborough take on Groton-Dunstable at 7:00 PM. Groton-Dunstable are limping into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Fitchburg, they will face off against Westborough.
