Even though the Mt. Baker Mountaineers scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, the Orcas Island Vikings still came out on top. Orcas Island pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Mt. Baker. For Orcas Island, this counts as revenge for the 65-60 defeat Mt. Baker walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.
Orcas Island's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jefferson Freeman, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Romero Lago, who scored 14 points.
Orcas Island's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Mt. Baker, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orcas Island will challenge Overlake at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mt. Baker, they will head out on the road to face off against Mount Vernon at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
