Basketball Recap: Gaither Extends Road Winning Streak to Nine

Gaither waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They greeted the New Year with with a 79-65 victory over the Sunlake Seahawks. The Cowboys pushed the score to 62-40 by the end of the third, a deficit the Seahawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Gaither was led to victory by Asiah Perry and Josiah Manrow. Perry posted 21 points, while Manrow put up 21 points. Manrow's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayce Humphries, who earned 14 points.

Sunlake lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christopher Murray, who went 9 for 18 en route to 28 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Murray has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Brown, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Gaither pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points per game. As for Sunlake, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4.

Gaither wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 79-40 defeat against Blake on the 7th. As for Sunlake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-62 victory against Fivay on the 9th.
