Basketball Recap: Fletcher Victorious

If Fernandina Beach wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Fletcher, they should've done a better job of containing Jasmine Cross. The Fletcher Senators secured a 40-36 W over the Fernandina Beach Pirates on Friday thanks in part to Cross, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points and five steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in November of 2024.

Fernandina Beach lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Savina Wells, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Wells is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Julianna Miller was another key player, going 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points along with five boards and three steals.

Fletcher's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Fernandina Beach, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fletcher has already played their next matchup (against Fleming Island), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fernandina Beach will challenge Hilliard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilliard will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Fernandina Beach surely won't give up without a fight.
