The Weatherford Christian Lions scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 47-40 victory over Westlake Academy. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Weatherford Christian.
Despite the loss, Westlake Academy saw an underclassman step up: Maya Sonday scored 29 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Sonday scored a full 72.5% of Westlake Academy's points, the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Burdick, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Westlake Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Weatherford Christian now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Westlake Academy, they bumped their record down to 7-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Weatherford Christian will take on Fort Worth THESA at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Westlake Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Trinity Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
