Calvert is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Gibsonburg is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Senecas will welcome the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calvert is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.7 runs per game this season.
Calvert proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 14) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Liberty-Benton 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Senecas have posted since May 1, 2024.
Calvert let Alyssa Rishty and Kaleigh Concepcion run wild. Rishty went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Concepcion went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Concepcion has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Gibsonburg got the win against Danbury on Monday by a conclusive 20-4. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ava Amor was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Leah Hall was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Ansley Fleming was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Gibsonburg hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.
Calvert has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Gibsonburg, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvert has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gibsonburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
