Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Los Alamitos is ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mater Dei's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brannon Martinsen led the charge by scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds. Martinsen hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Davidson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Mater Dei's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-2. As for Los Alamitos, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-5.
