The Quaker Valley Quakers were the 53-51 winner over the Avonworth Antelopes when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Quaker Valley fell just short of Avonworth by a score of 61-58. While losing is never fun, Quaker Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Avonworth is ranked 98th).
Despite the loss, Quaker Valley still got an impressive performance from Joey Coyle, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 5 assists. Coyle scored a full 62.1% of Quaker Valley's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Cox-Giles, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Quaker Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Quaker Valley has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Avonworth, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Quaker Valley will take on South Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Avonworth, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Montour at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Montour is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
