The Ellinwood Eagles suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Saturday. Their rough 51-28 defeat to Victoria might stick with them for a while. Ellinwood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Victoria apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Ellinwood saw an underclassman step up: Bennett Jacobs scored 16 points. Jacobs continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Averi Windholz continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Victoria, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Windholz has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennidy Amrein, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds.
Ellinwood's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.8 points per game. As for Victoria, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.
Ellinwood will head out on the road to challenge Ness City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ness City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday. As for Victoria, they will be playing at home against Ellis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ellis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Victoria in Kansas (Ellis is ranked 105th, while Victoria is ranked 238th).
