Softball Recap: Lennox Academy Has No Trouble Against Hawthorne Math & Science Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leuzinger, Lennox Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Aviators. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.

Valeria Lopez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lopez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Valerie Lozano-Prado was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ariana Olmos, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Lennox Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lennox Academy pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Lennox Academy will square off against Compton Early College at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rising Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.77 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy, they will face off against Animo Leadership at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
