Trinity is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Delone Catholic is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Trinity Shamrocks will take on the Delone Catholic Squires at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Trinity took their match at home with ease, bagging a 45-8 victory over Halifax. With Trinity ahead 35-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Trinity's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Messiah Mickens, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Caleb Wray was another key contributor, throwing for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Delone Catholic blew past Fairfield, posting a 49-18 victory at home. 49 seems to be a good number for Delone Catholic as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Delone Catholic had a senior duo take command as Brady Dettinburn rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries and Gage Zimmerman rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Trinity has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Delone Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Trinity has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Delone Catholic struggles in that department as they've been even better at 262.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Trinity against Delone Catholic when the teams last played back in August as the team secured a 49-12 victory. Will Trinity repeat their success, or does Delone Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
