Depew is 1-8 against Davenport since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Depew Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Davenport Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Davenport took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Depew, who comes in off a win.
After only two points in their last game, Depew made sure to put some points up on the board against Summit Christian Academy on Friday. Depew blew past Summit Christian Academy 64-26 at home. The result was nothing new for Depew, who have now won three matches by 38 points or more so far this season.
Depew's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Johnson, who rushed for 234 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 59 receiving yards. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Tyler Burdick was another key contributor, rushing for 74 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Davenport fell victim to Wetumka's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Chieftains on the road and fell 49-0. Davenport has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The victory makes it two in a row for Depew and bumps their season record up to 4-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Summit Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 21.7% over those games). As for Davenport, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Depew ended up a good deal behind Davenport when the teams last played back in November of 2022, losing 30-12. Can Depew avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
