The Nogales Apaches were the 62-33 winner over the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Nogales fell 51-44 to Tucson High Magnet School on Monday. Nogales has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Nogales still got an impressive performance from Mia Rodriguez, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Alexa Navarro was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Tucson High Magnet School found their leader in underclassman Destiney Brown, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Brown hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamila Vasavilbaso, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Nogales' defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-11. As for Tucson High Magnet School, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-8.
Nogales will head out on the road to face off against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buena is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Marana at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Marana will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Tucson High Magnet School is ranked 93rd).
