Even though the Shaker Bison scored an imposing 62 points on Thursday, the Wallkill Panthers still came out on top. Wallkill came out on top in a nail-biter against Shaker and snuck past 64-62.
Wallkill got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zoe Mesuch out in front who scored 29 points along with five assists. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Dembinsky, who scored 20 points.
When it comes to explaining why Shaker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sierra Carter. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. Peyton Hoblock was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Shaker were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wallkill only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Wallkill now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Shaker, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wallkill will finish 2023 at home by hosting Pine Bush at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pine Bush will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line. As for Shaker, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Shaker is ranked 28th).
