Softball Recap: Onaga Has No Trouble Against Wabaunsee

Onaga won the last time they faced Wabaunsee and things went their way on Monday too. The Buffaloes put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 11-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won 15 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Willow Hochstedler and Bridgett Campbell were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hochstedler pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Campbell struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Hochstedler went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Campbell got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Onaga let Addison DeChant and Ember Conger run wild. DeChant went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Conger went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Conger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Ringel, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Onaga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Onaga and bumps their season record up to 17-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Wabaunsee, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat the Chargers by a score of 12-5 later that day.
