The South Caldwell Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Alexander Central Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Caldwell is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, South Caldwell lost to Freedom at home by a decisive 53-37 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Caldwell in their matchups with Freedom: they've now lost four in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kennedy Setzer, who scored 12 points. Kristin Barber was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Alexander Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 68-61 to Ashe County. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Alexander Central came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Ashe County is ranked 152nd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kirstyn Herman, who scored 19 points along with two steals and two blocks. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Jarrett, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
South Caldwell's record is now 9-7. As for Alexander Central, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-1.
South Caldwell didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Alexander Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 30-26 win.
