Cloverdale hasn't had much luck against South Vermillion recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Clovers will host the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Cloverdale turned things around against Eminence on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Eels with a sharp 24-1 victory. The Clovers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Ben Campbell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Cloverdale is undefeated when Campbell posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Cloverdale got a massive performance out of Drake Hoffa, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Hoffa has become a key player for the Clovers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Duncan, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Cloverdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eminence only managed three hits.
While South Vermillion didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Seeger 10-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Mason Winters made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Winters was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Parker Weir, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Dallas Coleman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Cloverdale's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for South Vermillion, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cloverdale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Vermillion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
