It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Paul VI Eagles can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Bergen Catholic on Saturday, falling 35-0. Paul VI's loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Leading Bergen Catholic to victory were Quincy Porter and Dominic Campanile. Porter picked up 146 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Campanile threw for 263 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Porter is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in the last three games he's played.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bergen Catholic's defense and their four sacks. Delaney Fludd was especially locked on to Paul VI's QB and sacked him twice.
Paul VI's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Bergen Catholic, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-1 record.
Paul VI will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Camden Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on November 23rd. Camden Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Paul VI is ranked 37th). As for Bergen Catholic, they will take on Donovan Catholic at TBD on Friday.
