Fort Hancock has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Wink Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fort Hancock scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Job Corps 73-32 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 56-17.
Fort Hancock got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emmanuel Herrera out in front who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Herrera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Patrick Hernandez, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Wink was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 66-62 to Jal. While losing is never fun, Wink can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 998th in Texas, while Jal is ranked 76th in New Mexico).
Fort Hancock is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Wink, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Fort Hancock suffered a grim 76-52 defeat to Wink in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Fort Hancock avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
