WPIAL AAA Northeastern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Robbie Hebenthal and Colin Jonov provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Indiana. The connection was good for 62 yards, the longest such play in WPIAL AAA Northeastern this season.
Mars extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Highlands, 55-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Fightin' Planets.
Dakota Bruggeman and Benjamin Tackett gave Knoch a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Bruggeman threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns, while Tackett ran for 92 yards. Cory Godlewski also contributed to the rushing game with 47 yards on the ground.
Josh Wannarnaker was the best wideout in the league this week as Derry fell to the Little Indians. Wannarnaker racked up eight receptions for 127 yards. Tyler Matusak helped Derry's passing attack out by catching four balls for 45 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Nico Lodovico of Franklin Regional is the league leader in passing yards this season with 502. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Mars' Joshua Schultheis has rushed for 601 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Wannarnaker. The Derry star has 19 catches for 301 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Hampton takes on the Knights. The Talbots are in third place, while Knoch is in second place.
Greensburg Salem moved up to 232 from 282 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Golden Lions climbed the ranks as a result of a 44-0 win over the Golden Lions.
