4A/5A Southwest recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Montrose, who took down 28th ranked Grand Junction, 41-21. Drew Casebier threw for 153 yards and one touchdown, ran for 33 yards and caught one passes for 15 yards in the win.
Fruita Monument led 4A/5A Southwest in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Durango.
Brennan Woodruff was the best wideout in the league this week as the Indians topped the Tigers. Woodruff racked up two receptions for 78 yards. Peter Shearer helped Montrose's passing attack out by catching three balls for 60 yards.
Tyler Heinsma was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 159 yards as Grand Junction defeated Grand Junction. Teammate Dion Martinez added to the ground attack by rushing for 104 yards.
Grand Junction Central's Mike Price and Josh Weller have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A/5A Southwest in both passing and receiving yards. Price has thrown for 1124 yards this season, while Weller, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 44 catches for 766 yards. Todd Casebier's team's Angelo Youngren leads the league in rushing yards with 1321.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Indians take on the Demons. At the moment, Montrose is in first, while Durango is in fourth.
The Wildcats made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,955 from 7,112. The improvement came about via a 42-0 victory over Greg Wyatt's team last week.
