The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Overhills Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cardinal Gibbons' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games.
Last Friday, Cardinal Gibbons was able to grind out a solid win over Leesville Road, taking the game 33-23.
Cardinal Gibbons' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gannon Jones, who threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, and Aiden Smalls, who picked up 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Chet Yardley, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Overhills unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a tough 56-34 loss at the hands of Pine Forest. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (32), Overhills still had to take the loss.
The losing side was boosted by Joel Lalin, who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown. Lalin was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Jermaine Banks was another key contributor, rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-3 Jordan and 6-4 Hillside (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.5% over those games). As for Overhills, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
