The Hawkinsville Red Devils came into Saturday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took down Wheeler County 55-37 on Saturday. The victory was just what Hawkinsville needed coming off of a 63-36 loss in their prior contest.
Karia Nelson had a dynamite game for Hawkinsville, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Edwards, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Wheeler County's loss came despite strong showings from Nikita James and Makaylin Harvey. James scored 20 points along with seven rebounds, while Harvey scored four points along with six rebounds. That was a full 54.1% of Wheeler County's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Hawkinsville pushed their record up to 8-8 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Wheeler County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawkinsville will take on the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chattahoochee County will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Wheeler County, they and the Falcons will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. East Laurens presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bulldogs in Georgia (the Falcons are ranked 156th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 486th).
