Flinthills is 8-2 against Argonia since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Flinthills Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Argonia Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Flinthills' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 50-27 defeat at the hands of Central. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Flinthills has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Argonia pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Oxford by a score of 68-66. While losing is never fun, Argonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Oxford is ranked 115th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Filippo Leonardi, who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Carson Vineyard was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Argonia were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Flinthills' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Argonia, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
Flinthills didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Argonia when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 50-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Flinthills since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
