Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Muleshoe Mules walked away with it. They blew past Lamesa, posting a 56-20 win on the road. Given Muleshoe's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while Lamesa is ranked 1065th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Muleshoe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josue Sigala, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Sigala hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for three straight games. Daniel Sianez was another key contributor, rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Muleshoe, adding 18 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Mauricio Herrera: he added 18 points with six field goals.
When it comes to explaining why Lamesa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Benito Barrioz. Despite the final result, he rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Muleshoe's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.6 points per game. As for Lamesa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Muleshoe will be playing in front of their home fans against Brock at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brock is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Lamesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
