The South Pontotoc Cougars will look to defend their home court on Friday against the New Albany Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. South Pontotoc will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, South Pontotoc beat Byhalia 45-41.
Meanwhile, New Albany pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Union.
Despite their loss, New Albany saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kylan Lindsey, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Gilbert, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
South Pontotoc has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for New Albany, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
South Pontotoc was able to grind out a solid win over New Albany in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 61-48. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was New Albany's Chris Carter, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for South Pontotoc to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
