5A District 9 recap October 22, 2013
Jesuit added to the longest winning streak in 5A District 9 this week by beating Bishop Moore, 14-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Tigers.
Jesuit and the Hornets played the most contested game in the league this week, with Jesuit eventually emerging with a 14-10 victory.
Middleton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Marcellus Ray threw for 274 and 4 touchdowns and Anthony Rhynes had 189 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Tillman contributed 147 yards. Chalo Judge helped Middleton's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 40 yards.
Ray put up the best numbers in passing as the Tigers beat Leto. Ray's favorite target this week was Rhynes, who caught 4 passes for 189 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Middleton and Spoto face off next week. Traverrian Williams has dominated opposing QBs with a total of 5.0 sacks, while Ray has 1,336 passing yards and 15 touchdowns on the season.
The Spartans are currently in third, while Alonzo Ashwood's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Spoto and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Dale Caparaso's team comes in having scored 74 this season, while Middleton has scored 132. The Spartans scored 14 points last week as they fell to Plant City.
The Tigers took down the Falcons 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ray in the win.
