After a string of four wins, the Highland Hawks's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 73-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Desert Vista. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (63), Highland still had to take the loss.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ty Crandall, who scored 20 points. Nick Reber was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Desert Vista found their leader in underclassman Lorenzo (LJ) Diamond, who scored 23 points. Diamond is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian (DJ) Spencer, who scored 13 points.
Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Desert Vista, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will take on Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Highland is ranked 20th). As for Desert Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilbert knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Desert Vista likes a good challenge.
