The GVCS Broadfording Lions had to endure an 11-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Berkeley Springs with a 54-50 win on Friday. The victory was just what GVCS Broadfording needed coming off of a 76-28 defeat in their prior game.
GVCS Broadfording's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Shifler, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Shifler has scored at least 25% of GVCS Broadfording's points. Daniel Cartwright was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
GVCS Broadfording's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12. As for Berkeley Springs, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. GVCS Broadfording will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Patapsco at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Patapsco has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Berkeley Springs will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Keyser at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
