The Glenwood Springs Demons will head out to challenge the Eagle Valley Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Glenwood Springs put up the most runs they have all season last Wednesday. They walked away with an 18-13 win over Summit.
Glenwood Springs got a massive performance out of Noah Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Smith has posted since back in April. Kasen Aguirre was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Glenwood Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Eagle Valley waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Husky 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Devils, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hudson Rozga was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Ricardo Gutierrez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brody Blank, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
Glenwood Springs' record is now 7-13. As for Eagle Valley, their record now sits at 15-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Glenwood Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eagle Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Glenwood Springs suffered a grim 18-1 defeat to Eagle Valley in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Demons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
