The Vestal Golden Bears had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on Horseheads with a sharp 28-7 victory. The result was nothing new for Vestal, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Liam Nealy, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown. Nealy is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
Vestal's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Jaden Bernardini and Jt Gannon who racked up four sacks between them.
Despite the loss, Horseheads saw an underclassman step up: Bryce Thomas rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Vestal's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Horseheads, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vestal will challenge Binghamton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Binghamton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Vestal is ranked 34th). As for Horseheads, they will head out on the road to face off against Corning-Painted Post at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
