Even though the Umatilla Bulldogs scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, the South Lake Eagles still came out on top. South Lake snuck past the Bulldogs with a 62-57 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for South Lake.
David PINA was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Pina, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Umatilla saw an underclassman step up: Herly Brutus almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists. Brutus hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. Jay Miller was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Even though they lost, Umatilla were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Lake only racked up ten assists.
South Lake's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Umatilla, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.
South Lake will stay at home for another game and welcome the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Wekiva is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Umatilla, they will face off against the Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Weir knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully the Bulldogs like a good challenge.
