Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Comes Up Short

Plainfield South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Joliet Central Steelmen. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-39 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Plainfield South still got an impressive performance from Layla Lesure, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 19 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Lesure's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tierra Abner, who posted eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Plainfield South's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Joliet Central, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-13.

Plainfield South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-44 defeat against Minooka on the 23rd. As for Joliet Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-40 loss against Plainfield North on the 23rd.
