Basketball Recap: Gibbs' Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gibbs). Everything went their way against the Boca Ciega Pirates on Monday as the Gibbs Gladiators made off with a 52-30 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Gladiators as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gibbs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lakeyia Thompson, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points and three steals. Iloa James was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Boca Ciega saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kamariyah Allen posted 16 points and three steals. That was a full 53.3% of Boca Ciega's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Ciro, who put up six points.

Gibbs' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Boca Ciega, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gibbs will face off against St. Petersburg at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Boca Ciega, they will take on Lakewood at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Lakewood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.6 points per game this season.
