The high school football season in South Carolina has come to a close with the completion of championship games in five classifications. Dutch Fork was among the winners, beating T.L. Hanna (Anderson) 28-6 in the AAAAA title contest and finishing No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 computer rankings.
That victory, coupled with a 10-0 record and consistent excellence this season, makes Dutch Fork the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of South Carolina.
Dutch Fork outscored opponents 426-94 on the season, recorded three shutouts and won every game by at least 21 points to earn a fifth consecutive state title.
The team was led by senior quarterback
Will Taylor, who accounted for 2,685 yards and 32 touchdowns. He had two dynamic senior receivers in
Antonio Williams (51 catches, 837 yards, eight touchdowns) and
Elijah Spencer (44, 858, 12). Sophomore running back
Jarvis Green added 756 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
In the championship win, Green rushed 13 times for 137 yards and had touchdown runs of 7 and 8 yards. Taylor accounted for 229 yards and two scores.
Dutch Fork wasn't the only dominant championship team. Flora (AAAA), Daniel (AAA), Abbeville and Southside Christian (A) combined for records of 41-0. Each outscored opponents by a wide margin: Flora 564-101, Daniel 530-181, Abbeville 512-44 and Southside Christian 395-65.
