Red Mountain is 9-1 against Skyline since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The pair will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Red Mountain has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 44-32 to Mesa on Friday. Red Mountain has not had much luck with Mesa recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite their loss, Red Mountain saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Macy Johnson, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Payton Westra was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Skyline came up short against Westwood on Friday and fell 45-34.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jordan Seiuli, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Lauren Haas, who scored six points.
Red Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Skyline, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 10-9.
Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Red Mountain have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34.4 rebounds per game. Given Red Mountain's sizeable advantage in that area, Skyline will need to find a way to close that gap.
Red Mountain took their victory against Skyline when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 55-35. Will Red Mountain repeat their success, or does Skyline have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
